6 Things to Consider when Choosing a Wedding Venue

While choosing the right venue for a couple can be a daunting process. You want to make sure it’s the right choice for you and that is has the wow factor that you want to give your guests.

Theme: When searching for that perfect venue you firstly need to think what type of wedding do you want? Do you want it at the beach, a winery wedding, did you first meet in New Zealand? Rustic, boho, vintage, contemporary? What relates to you as couple and what kind of vibe are you wanting to achieve? Do you want something unique or have you seen a picture of venue that you have fallen in love with?

Choose the destination/area: Some older wedding venues that have functions all the time can look dated, especially the decor. Getting married in the inner city can have its challenges for parking and travel. If you choose to travel and have a destination wedding then it can have its own set of challenges like finding accommodation for your guests.

Guest Numbers: Large weddings are hard to cater for let alone finding the right venue. There are limited wedding venues that cater for large numbers but if you are lucky to have a small wedding then the options are literally endless.

Types of guests: Catering for the elderly or children can have its challenges but you will need to take this into consideration. If you are thinking about an overseas wedding but still want Nanna to come maybe consider having a small wedding close to her and opting for your honeymoon to be the destination.

Duration: Don’t like the attention? Do you want to have your wedding over quickly or do you want it to be a weekend long party? Could opt for a destination wedding or a registry office date.

How much planning do you want to do? Some couples are just happy to contact a venue and they do the rest for you others like to be involved and carefully consider each planning detail.

Why did our Managing Editor choose Country Victoria for her wedding?

We (Lauren) chose to get married at ‘Playshack’, a private accommodation in Merrijig, Country Victoria. This destination was special for us as we used to holiday close by as children. The property is what drew me to the area, the house, surrounds and the privacy; it was situated on a large block with a gorgeous river running at the back of the property. We knew we want to have a wedding just with our close friends and family, which brought our guest numbers to about 70. Having our bridal party stay at the house was also a must. The ceremony was an intimate casual affair making it easy to feel as though it was a special get together, great for children and older guests. The vendors in Mansfield were only too happy to help, they bent over backwards to assist in all the planning stages. It is a small tight knit wedding vendor community so they were well experienced in all aspects. Our guests stayed the weekend in local accommodation and we had a range of activates for everyone to participate and mingle prior to our wedding. We got to spend quality time with everyone that attended. It was perfect, wouldn’t change a thing.
