And We're Off - OIP Spring Racing Editorial

Iconic to the Melbourne Events Calendar, the Spring Racing Carnival offers more than just a day at the races. If you were to ask a group of people what they love about the event, it's unlikely they'll narrow it down to one thing. For some it might be 'the race that stops a nation', others could say fashion on the fields, and some will admit it's just about the opportunity to get a little too drunk with friends and potentially back a winner. But outside of the Racecourse itself, how do you emanate the stylish experience synonymous with the races into your pre and post-race activities? This is the question OIP wanted to explore when curating the trifecta of race day experiences for real life besties Steph and Blaise. We decided to shower them in nothing but elements of luxury and bespoke experiences in the hope it'll inspires you to get creative with how you prepare, attend or celebrate a day at the races this Spring Carnival season. img_6372 Treating the girls to a day of luxury meant that a suitable hotel was paramount, and there is no exception when it comes to the Coppersmith Hotel. Renowned for its understated but luxurious boutique hotel rooms, it became the perfect base for Blaise and Steph to savour their Melbourne trip. Enjoying room service in what can only be described as the softest bed ever, their breakfast consisted of mouth watering and envy inducing The Coppersmith Breakfast and Bircher Muesli. img_5986 fotorcreatedk After what can only be considered as the perfect start to a long day - each of the girls had their hair and make up completed by the infectiously bubbly Jessica Rahar, before being spoilt for choice from a selection of couture Salih Nesim designs and donning a creation by Lady of Leisure Millinery in juxtaposing styles of modern brass geometric and elegant black lace. fotorcreated2

Scent plays a huge part and memory retention, allowing us to travel back in time and relive special moments. So when it came to accessories, we wanted to gift the girls with a unique scent, designed specially for their day: a bespoke ambient fragrance that would uplift the mood in the room and bring Spring to life, evoking feelings of happiness, luxury and friendship.

Enlisting the expertise of Scentique Coutures scent designer Drieli, an elegant and luxurious ambient scent was created and diffused in an oil burner whilst they were preparing for their day. Made with delicate essential oils and with base notes of Vanilla, Rose and Jasmine, a middle note of Geranium and top note of Grapefruit, the heavenly aroma filled the hotel room and, much like ambient background music, set the mood for the day.

Delivered in vintage french perfume bottles, the scent was echoed throughout the day in Bespoke Botanics arrangements, buttonholes and installation.’

img_6284 img_6286 img_6297 Dressed to the nines and smelling divine, it was time for Blaise and Steph to make their way to the racecourse. Not wanting to be upstaged by any other part of the day (and avoid those pesky taxi queues), the girls were chauffeured by Tom of Triple R luxury car hire in a regal Mercedez Benz convertible, and whom even let them stop for a photo or five. img_6271 img_6256 img_6086 img_6069 After the gallop that is attending a race day, we wanted to change the pace by creating an intimate space for Blaise and Steph to wind down. Luckily for us, the Coppersmith rooftop offers just that (whilst also being conveniently located not 20 metres from their room). Boasting panoramic views of the city sky line, the girls were treated to cocktails and an array of appetizers including:
  • Tuna Carpaccio w/ Mandarin, Celery Leaves, Mint
  • Crispy Pig Ears w/ Tarragon Sauce
  • Crab Rice Paper Rolls
  • Salmon Pastrami w/ Avocado Lime Puree, Cress on Toast
  • Vegetarian Croquettes
  • Handcut chips

Coordinated by Event Entertainers, acoustic performer Simon Paparo serenaded the girls with classics including I Will Wait and Dancing In The Moonlight. With his captivating vocals and ability to capture an audience, it was the perfect way to wrap up the girls day and our shoot. img_6571 img_6563 img_6546 We'd like to thank all of our contributing vendors, whose ongoing collaboration allow us to create original and inspiring content for you. Our photographer Sahar for capturing some truly beautiful images throughout the day, and Angela of Bespoke Botanics whose dedication to creating stunning floral arrangements and installations (even in the rain) is truely inspiring. img_6592 img_6603 Vendors Venue & Food: The Coppersmith Hotel Photographer: Asiya Photography Stationary: PAPERPlayground Friends: Blaise and Stephanie Outfits: Salih Nesim Millinery: Lady of Leisure Millinery Perfume: Scentique Couture Make Up: Jessica Rahar Florals: Bespoke Botanics Cars: Triple R Car Hire Music: Simon Paparo managed by Event Entertainers Linen: Di Simmons Brass vases, props and signage: The Hire Co SaveSave
