A Rose Quartz & Serenity Love Affair - Love Birds
It was love at first sight for me as soon as Pantone released their colour of the year for 2016 - Rose Quartz and Serenity. A beautiful combination of the the softest pink and blue hues, it was my aim to work with these colours and bring it to life in dessert table form as soon as I could! Luckily for me, my itch was scratched when Valentine's Day started rolling in and decided it was the perfect colours to use for Love Day.
This year's Valentine's Day concept was based on these colours and the theme of love birds. We wanted an organic yet simple and modern look overall and the starting point to the table was the watercolour paint I created of two love birds, Carmen and Pedro. Painting these on paper to create the paperie, I also ventured into painting onto fondant as Lenny of La Petite Pops and myself collaborated on the cake for the table. She made the cake, I painted!
We concentrated on some desserts that were a little different such as macaron stacks - a three-tiered macaron stack by Arelio Sweetbox with swiss meringue buttercream filling, the cutest mini profiterole by La Petite Pops on top and decorated with gold leaf and wafer flowers; mini eclairs; chocolate Oreos, and desserts to echo the theme such as meringue 'nests', and persian fairy floss looking like a 'nest' adorning the panna cotta cups by Sugar High Desserts.
Of course we had some refreshing coconuts from Kayter & Co for the drinks, adorned with meringue nests and pink doughnuts and Raffaelo.
The theme was carried throughout with fresh floral arrangements of heart wreaths and 'floral nests' by Lime Tree Bower.
Another way we brought the colours into the set-up were the beautiful vintage cake stands from Pretty Pedestals. We just couldn't believe when we saw one of the dessert plates - it was the exact colour of Serenity blue. We also used a gorgeous grey vintage bar cart to house the set-up, perfect for two love birds to enjoy.
