First week of Spring!!! Say no more. The weather is warming up… finally! and entertaining is slowly moving outdoors. This Spring, at OIP we are looking forward to fashion, blooms, the races, footy finals and getting outdoors! We wanted to show you guys how to pack an Instagram-worthy perfect picnic. This could be just for 2 on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the park or to share among friends at the races. When taking the perfect snap to share remember to layer, blend textures, and mix shapes, this will make your image as interested as possible to the viewer.
What to carry your picnic in?
Well the obvious answer is a picnic basket but it does all depending on where you are having your picnic. If you are headed to the races something that can be folded down or disposed of would be the best solution as nobody wants to be carrying a large wicker basket around after the races. You could use a fabric satchel or a recyclable cardboard box. If you are planning a lazy afternoon having a picnic then a gorgeous basket would be the ideal solution.
Beverages
Anything bottled is easy to carry: this could be wine, beer or other refreshments. For race day go-ers champagne or sparkling wine is best to kick off the day then followed by copious amounts of chilled rosé for its mellow notes and gorgeous color. For the non drinkers a great idea would be to make your own flavored water with fruit or iced tea. These not only look fab and fresh but are good for you!
Thirsty for Tea
The main affair
Sandwiches are so simple and easy to make, you can wrap them in brown paper and twine for plastic free packaging. If you are trying to avoid carbs then a healthier option could be quiche or savory slices such as a zucchini slice. A fancier option, you could fill some cardboard boxes with your fav salad. Mason jars are also a great idea for packaging.
Snacks
Wine’s best friend would have to be fruit, cheese and biscuits and what better snack to have at a picnic! These are easy to pack and are delicious. Try your hand at an antipasti platter to share. You could use crunchy breads, seeded biscuits, cured meats, a mixture of soft and hard cheese, sun-dried anything in oil, olives, and dips.
The rug or blanket
The rug or blanket choice can be just as important as the basket itself, its a picnic fashion accessory. You can create that Insta-worthy flat lay using a punchy pattern that ties your picnic in together. The best rugs are those that fold up neatly with a carry strap. We have found some awesome Aussie businesses that have the most gorgeous and modern rugs: Pixie Rugs, Basil Bangs, and Emby Love.
